In the winter of 2018, Hazesounds invited a Danish band Virgin Suicide with the same name as the famous film <The Virgin Suicides>. However, in contrast to the sadness conveyed by the movie, this band’s music is as sweet as peaches. It makes most audience who have watched their live shows quickly fell in love with them. And the audience have been missing them until now.

 

In 2020, Virgin Suicide finally comes back! With their passion and love!

Virgin Suicide consists of vocal Martin Grønne, guitar Terkel Røjle, drums Simon Thoft Jensen, bass Kristian Schøtt Kyvsgaard and Synth Jeppe Østergaard.

 

The band – who met at school in the town of Silkeborg, in western Denmark, before they relocated to Copenhagen and formed Virgin Suicide in 2012. Because the P6 Beat Radio station in Denmark always played a lot of bands like the Smiths...those kind of bands from 80s, that really inspire them. Whenever some magazines or someone writes about Virgin Suicide, they always referenced these ‘80s bands, like the Smiths and the Cure.

 

 

In 2015, Virgin Suicide premiered the first single, self-titled "Virgin Suicide", off their upcoming debut album Virgin Suicide. And with The Raveonettes frontman Sune Rose Wagner co-produced the whole thing it definitely seems a promising album. “The album aims to reflect on our lust for love, sex, party, family, death and all the emotional contrasts you go through while finding your identity.”

 

They wears the matching white turtle neck jumpers seen in their first music video, charming and neat. But you can feel a little disconnected with them.

Actually, they are different from the appearance of the MV in their daily life. They look the part in East London parts though, between them wearing a mixture of vintage polo tops and patterned shirts, with ingenuous and warm smile.

 

 

Since the debut release of 'Virgin Suicide' in 2015, the band have been invited to play various concerts and festivals, including the famous Roskilde Music Festival which gained them huge international attention.

 

The jangled and bright guitar pop, which is the group's distinctive, becomes on the new recordings contrasted with a more gloomy and dramatic expression. Virgin Suicide denotes their sound as dark romantic and mentions Shoegaze pioneers like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, and the Suede album <Dog Man Star> among inspiration sources.

 

 

In 2018, the band released their new single “Madonna”. It’s inspired by a sort everyday social anxiety: the feeling of being misplaced in your ‘favourite environment’.

 

The band released their new EP in 2019. The band has once again collaborated with Sune Rose Wagner (The Raveonettes) to mix the new tunes,”Plastic Chair”. “Plastic Chair” would fit well into a road trip playlist, as one is driving down a highway on a summer evening with some friends. “Plastic Chair is about a distance growing wider and wider between society and oneself.”explained Terkel Atsushi (guitar).
