FAQs

Size: How big are the tour groups?
In order to ensure we can give everyone our full attention and an unforgettable experience our shared tours will take a maximum of 8 participants. Private tours can accommodate as many or as few participants as you wish.

Which tour is right for me?
If you are a family with young children we recommend a private tour as we can adapt the pace & the content for you. The "Good morning Shanghai" will be a great introduction to the local Shanghai with more interactions on the way.
If you are a single, or couple, or local expat we recommend the shared Good morning Shanghai or Shanghai by night tours.

Duration: How long is the tour?How far do we bike?
Approximately 4hours (7km) for the "Good morning Shanghai" tour and about 9-10km for the Shanghai by night tour, in 3.5hours
These are two totally different routes, with very different stops and content.

Where will we visit? / I want to see ....?
We have standard routes but our itinerary changes over days because Shanghai is changing very quickly, please let us know in advance if you have "must-see" locations or any special requirements which we will try to accommodate on a private basis.

Where do I meet my guide?
All our Tours start & end at the Andaz hotel Xintiandi: 88 Songshan Road, Shanghai Xintiandi - 上海新天地安达仕酒店 嵩山路 88 号
You will always get details on your e-mail confirmation with timing & access map.

What should I do if I'm running late?
Contact us immediately on +86 135 2495 9628 and we will see what options we have for you.

What are my responsibilities as a guest?
Guests are responsible for:
- Choosing a tour that corresponds to their abilities, fitness level and state of health;
- Arriving on time for the start of the tour; arriving at the meeting point with clothing and gear suitable to the time of year;
- Respecting the laws and customs of China and Shanghai;
- Following environmental guidelines and regulations while on the tour, in accordance with the tour leader's instructions;
- Respecting the rights and privacy of other tour participants.
An individual may be asked to leave a tour if the Tour Leader feels that the person's continued participation may prove detrimental to the individual and/or his/her well-being, as well as the safety, enjoyment and well-being of other guests, including the Tour Leader.

Inclusions: What does the cost include?
Prices are all inclusive of snacks, drinks, temple entrance tickets, a bottle of water, a foreign bilingual experienced tour leader, a helmet, and single-gear vintage bike rental.
For the night tour, all lights will be installed on the bikes for your safety.
In case of rain, we will provide raincoats and will adapt the routes.

Child policy: Do you have any age limitations? Do children get a discount?
If they are at least 12 years old, competent cyclists, and comfortable with some riding alongside cars, then we can accommodate them. The tour leader will make the final decision on site if a child can ride with the group.
Adults are responsible for children and their safety at all times.
Children younger than 12 are not suitable for the shared tours and should take a private tour. To be sure that your young child can do a bike tour, you should book a private tour for your family (all ages accepted on private tours, and we have a range of bikes to suit). Children under 12 are half price. We can provide Baby seats (up to 20kg) and kid bikes on request.

Can I bring my own bike? Do the bikes have special features or gears?
You may bring your own bike, but make sure it is roadworthy. There is no discount for bringing your own bike and our tour leader is only trained to fix our own bikes.
If you get a flat tire our tour leader will give you their bike. All of our tour leaders have access to spare bikes around Shanghai at a moment's notice.
Our bikes are lovingly restored vintage bikes, they are fixed gear bikes with an adjustable seat height. Biking in Shanghai does not require gears as the roads are very flat and we encourage using all the same bike to keep the same standard for the group.

Is it safe to ride a bike in Shanghai? Can you teach me to ride a bike?
Your safety is our priority! Our amazing tour leaders are well aware of that. Our routes are specially designed to stay far from cars & others motorbikes. We provide free helmets, insurance and safety rules to make sure everyone feels good on the road and focus on what is important.
Unfortunately, we must insist that participants who are unable to ride a bike confidently do not book a shared tour. If you let us know in advance we are happy to offer you a private walking tour instead for example.

What should I wear for the bike ride? Do I have to wear a helmet?
Depending on the season, you should bring:
- A comfortable pair of shoes
- Light clothes
- A jumper in case it gets colder
- Rain jacket
- A pair of sunglasses
- A camera with a fully charged battery
- Warm and waterproof clothes, Winter gloves and hat (in Winter)
By law, you do not have to wear a helmet while riding a bike in China. However, for insurance purposes we strongly recommend that you do, please check with your insurance provider as their regulations.

Is the food served on the tour safe?
We have unique relationships with the local restaurants and pride ourselves in our inspections all food vendors we visit. We are happy to work with the local community and share the vibrant culinary culture with our guests - they are the same places we take our own family and friends.You remain free to choose if you want to taste the local food on the way since at the end of the day we cannot take any responsibility
For dietary requirements, we can accommodate vegetarians, vegans and people with allergies as well as long as you let us know in advance.
Tip: Do not drink tap water in Shanghai. Your tour leader will provide you with bottled water.

Can I store my things during the tour?
A cloakroom is available at the Andaz hotel (where we start & end our tours), you can leave your luggage, bags or kid trolley for the whole duration of the tour but do not leave valuable items since the Hotel cannot take any responsibility in case of loss or damage.

What is your policy in the event of rain?
Shanghai weather is rarely stormy enough to warrant the cancellation of a tour. Light rain, especially in the hot seasons, can make for a pleasant riding experience. We provide special rain jackets to keep you and your bike dry during the ride. Locals too rarely mind a little rain and you can still see them going about their daily lives and traditional ways. In case of a strong storm, we will contact you in advance to give you the chance to reschedule the tour or to cancel in advance.

What is your policy on lateness, no-show or last minute cancellations?
Participants must be present at the agreed excursion meeting point 30 minutes before departure. No refund will be provided to the individuals that are not present at the agreed meeting time and place and no refund will be provided to those that lose contact with the group guide or in the case that they do not complete the excursion.
The customer may cancel by providing written notice at least three days prior to the date, in which case no cancellation fee will be applied and we will proceed to 100% refund.

In case of a no-show or a tour cancellation less than 24 hours prior to the tour, we will charge the entire amount paid.
