WANG Peiyu is the fourth-generation disciple of the celebrated Peking Opera actor YU Shuyan, specialized in playing the role of an old gentleman.

 

 

She graduated from the third postgraduate program for Peking Opera actors run by the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts. Currently, she is a Chinese first-class actress of Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company and a member of the CPPCC Shanghai Municipal Committee. She ever studied under WANG Siji, ZHU Bingqian, TAN Yuanshou, LI Xixiang, ZHANG Xuejin and other famous masters. Her repertoire includes The Story of the Orphan, Setting Free CAO Cao, Wenzhao Pass, Beating a Drum to Curse CAO and A Banquet for Successful Candidates of Imperial Examination, etc.

 

 

She has persevered in inheriting the traditional, classic plays and continuously made explorations and innovations in the modes of transmission of Peking Opera art and actively put them into practice.

 

 

She ever won the Best Performance Award of the National TV Competition for Young Peking Opera Actors, China’s Plum Performance Award, Leading Actor Award of the White Magnolia Drama Performing Arts Awards and other major awards.
