Based on Victor Hugo's novel of the same name. The gypsy girl Esmeralda falls in love with the handsome and frivolous imperial guard, Forbes. Voulaud, vicar of Notre-Dame de Paris, is obsessed with Esmeralda's beauty and assassinates Forbes, who is dating Esmeralda. He is sentenced to death as a murderer and is rescued by Quasimodo, an ugly but kind-hearted bell-ringer, who takes refuge in Notre Dame. When Quasimodo discovers that Froude has killed Esmeralda, he throws him from the top floor to his death and kills himself next to Esmeralda's body.

Paul Stebbing, Artistic Director of TNT Theatre and Director, says that a strong sense of social morality and justice, a brilliant narrative and the thrill of reading have made this literary masterpiece. The themes explored in Notre Dame de Paris, such as religion and morality, religious fundamentalism, sex and love, have greater relevance today than they did in Hugo's time. Although there are few visual depictions of Paris, Notre-Dame de Paris is the drama of Paris, and Notre-Dame de Paris is the real protagonist. In Hugo's view, modernity was gradually obliterating the incomparable beauty of Paris, and Notre-Dame de Paris is his elegy for the city.

TNT's version of Notre Dame de Paris is vibrant, flamboyant and visually powerful. The French dialogue is classically elegant and clearly accessible, while the original music, a signature of TNT Theatre, is an important organic part of the production.

About British TNT Theatre

TNT is an acronym for both dynamite and new theatre, a theatre that strives to blend all forms of theatre into an explosive new theatre, based on a variety of theatrical elements, including traditional British theatre, the physical theatre of Eastern European masters Gorotovsky and Meyerhold and Italian masquerade comedy. All productions have a new score by a commissioned composer, a collaborative effort between the director and choreographer, and the casting of actors based on their ability to combine theatre, music and dance.

TNT is not only the English-language theatre company that has toured the most countries and venues worldwide, but has also created a large number of plays in French, Spanish and Russian, with Notre Dame de Paris, directed by Paul Stebbing and starring a full cast of French actors, being its masterpiece of French-language drama.
