Pianist Tianxu An, from Beijing, China, is a sought-after young pianist China, Russia and the United States. Highlights of his 2019–20 season include performances with the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev, and with the China Philharmonic Orchestra under Xia Xiaotang as part of the International Mariinsky Far East Festival, solo recitals at the Mariinsky Theatre and Shanghai Grand Theater, and a concert with the China NCPA Orchestra under Jia Lü at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, among many others.
In July 2019 he made his orchestral debut as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Mann Center, performing Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. In June of the same year Mr. An won the fourth prize and a special prize for “self-confidence and bravery” in the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition, where his performance was lauded by the jury chairman Denis Matsuev as “sensational” and “beyond his years of maturity.”
Mr. An has attended the Beijing International Piano Festival, the Philadelphia Young Pianists’ Academy, Morningside Music Bridge. He has participated in master classes with Klause Baessler, Andrea Bonatta, Dang Thai Son,and Maxim Mogilevsky.
Mr. An studied with Hua Chang at the Middle School affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Since age 16, he studies at the Curtis Institute of Music with Meng-Chieh Liu.
