This trip is all about taking an insane trek up snow covered mountains in Yunnan.  We are going off the beaten path for this hiking trip! Travel to Lijiang and Tiger Leaping Gorge through awesome scenery.  Then trek from Haba Village to Base Camp with professional guides and equipment, and up to the summit for spectacular views, visit the local villages surrounding the mountains… and more!!!

Day 1 -  Friday –  April 27

•   Meet up at our hostel in Lijiang
•   Spend the day chilling out and adjusting to the altitude

○   Accommodation : Hostel in Lijiang’s ancient town

○   Meals: none

Day 2 - Saturday- April 28

•   Lijiang → Tiger Leaping Gorge → Haba village [Altitude : 2600 m]
•   Breakfast
•   Hop on the bus  and head over to Tiger Leaping Gorge passing through the awesome scenery of the area : Lashi Lake, Yangtze River, Jinsha River, Shangri-la area, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
•   Begin the first part of our trek, hiking from Tiger Leaping Gorge up to Haba village
•   Enjoy a local dinner in the homestay where we stay for the night
•   Mountain climbing lesson

○   Meals: dinner

Day 3 - Sunday - April 29

•   Haba village [Altitude : 2600 m] → Base Camp [Altitude : 4100 m] [15 km]
•   Breakfast
•   Pack up and load our things onto the horses - time to head up to Base Camp!
•   Begin our awesome trek [15 km, approx 7h]
•   Arrive at base camp and settle for the night (chill out before the big day ahead!)

○   Meals: all

Day 4 - Monday - April 30

•   Base Camp [Altitude : 4100 m]  → Haba Snow Mountain Summit [Altitude : 5396 m]→ Base Camp  [30 km ~ 10-12 hours]
•   02:00 - Early start - Get snow mountain hiking equipment ready for the the most difficult , but awesome, part of the trek - Breakfast
•   03:00 - Hike up through spectacular scenery - glaciers, snow capped mountains, awesome rock formations, beautiful nature, guided by an experienced team mountaineer
•   09:00 - Reach the snow line and gear up (ice climbing spikes/ snow goggles) for the last bit of the trek to the top!
•   12:00 - Arrive at the summit and start our descent back to Base Camp

note : If weather is unsuitable for trekking to ‘the roof”, we will wait an extra day at base camp to make the trek.

Day 5 -  Tuesday - May 1

•   Base Camp → Haba village [15 km]
•   Early breakfast
•   Trek back to Haba Village
•   Visit the White Water Terrace for some beautiful scenery in the afternoon
•   Return back to the homestay for a celebration - We made it!!!

○   Meals: all

note : If we reschedule to trek to ‘the roof” this day, we will cancel the visit to the White Water Terrace.

 

Day 6 -  Wednesday- May 2

•   Haba village → Lijang
•   Breakfast
•   Return to Lijang

○   Meals: Breakfast

Not included- flights to/from Lijiang, Transfers to/from airport

(We can help you find someone to share if needed. However, if there is an uneven number of travelers, the single occupancy fee may apply. Pairings are distributed on a first come first serve basis.)

-Horses to ride for the trek on D2 (Haba Village to Base Camp,to save physical strength for rushing to the summit on D3), D3 (for those who feel tired after rushing to the summit), D4 (Base Camp back to Haba Village) - 300 rmb/day (These must be booked prior to the trip, as availability may be limited once on the trip and we won’t be able to guarantee your horse.)

-Personal local guide to help you get to the summit D3 - 500 RMB/day > must be booked prior to the trip

What you need to bring:

Passport,camera/gopro,40L backpack, small daypack, hiking shoes, trekking sticks, gaiters, snow goggles, waterproof gloves, coolmax socks, winter hats,fleece scarf,winter jacket and pants, fleece, quick dry clothes, sleeping bag liner, 1L vacuum cup, sunscreen, chapstick, sunglasses, headlamp, mobile power pack, toiletries, flip-flops ,altitude sickness medicine, personal medicine, power snacks (such as chocolates, instant noodles). You can buy many of these items in Decathlon.

I’ve never been mountain climbing before! Can I still do the trip?

Yes! There is no need for prior mountain climbing, rock climbing, or high altitude trekking experience to go on this trip.  This trip is suitable for those with basic outdoor experience and physical strength.

What sort of physical preparation should I do for this trip?

Physical exercise is necessary for this trip starting 1 month before departure.  We recommend attending 2 of our hiking trips and our training meeting prior to the trip.

 

Can kids join this trip?

This trip is not suitable for children.
