Salvador Dali (1904-1989) is one of the most famous painters of the 20th century, along with Picasso and Matisse. Dali's sculptures are widely respected, and his melting clocks are iconic.
The exhibition is a mixed bag. It feels like the team behind the event-Shanghai International Culture Association is one of them, as well as an auction company and a gallery-tried, then gave up, in the middle of the execution. On one hand, the exhibition is small and compact. It has prints, sculptures, a comprehensive introduction to the famed surrealist artist and his works, a documentary showing on three big screens, and so on. On the other hand, they did a half-assed job: videos are shown in Spanish and English with no subtitles; all the sculptures are just the melting clock, in total of four, with one big Chinese furnace thingy that doesn't belong here; on the chronicle of events, one of Dalí's portraits has a Getty images watermark.
