Playing with Fire: An Immersive Odyssey with Yuja Wang is a multisensory mixed reality concert experience presented by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with VIVE Arts and Sunrise Immersion, featuring internationally acclaimed pianist Yuja Wang.

Blending cutting-edge MR/VR technology with classical piano performance, the project breaks the conventional boundaries of time, space, and spectatorship, reimagining the concert experience as a new form of immersive classical music encounter.

The work previously made its world premiere at the Philharmonie de Paris and was later selected for the 2026 Immersive Competition of the Cannes Film Festival. Its world-class creative team brings together some of the leading voices in immersive art and sound: Pierre-Alain Giraud, winner of the 2024 Cannes Best Immersive Work Award, serves as writer and director; Icelandic visual artist Gabríela Friðriksdóttir creates the 3D holographic imagery; and Academy Award-winning sound designer Nicolas Becker crafts the immersive soundscape.

At the heart of the experience is a Steinway & Sons Spirio concert grand piano, one of the world’s most advanced high-resolution self-playing and recording pianos. Capable of precisely capturing and reproducing the nuances of touch, tempo, rhythm, dynamics, pedaling, and subtle keystroke details, the Spirio system recreates Yuja Wang’s performance on the physical instrument during the experience.

Synchronized with the holographic presence and virtual fingers of Yuja’s digital avatar, it creates an intimate and vivid audiovisual encounter, allowing audiences to step inside the physical and emotional act of performance itself.

1. This project is an approximately 50-minute immersive musical experience that combines mixed reality, 360° volumetric video, and spatial audio. The content includes flickering lights and intense visual imagery.
2. The experience will feature a live Steinway Spirio self-playing piano, as well as a virtual performance by Yuja Wang.
3. The experience involves wearing a VR headset. It is recommended for viewers aged 12 and above.
4. Glasses may be worn during the experience. Viewers with myopia exceeding 1000 degrees may experience dizziness and should participate with caution based on their own conditions.
5. Individuals with mental illnesses, infectious diseases, cervical spine conditions, heart disease, high blood pressure, a fear of heights, vertigo, respiratory diseases, bone fractures, pregnant women, and the elderly (over 70 years old) are advised not to purchase tickets. If they still wish to participate, it is recommended that they be accompanied throughout by a companion with a valid ticket.
6. Please arrive at the venue 15 minutes in advance. If you are late, please enter quietly. Latecomers will not receive refunds or exchanges.
7. Please store your bags and personal belongings securely at the venue’s checkroom beforehand.
8. Audience members are free to move within designated areas or choose to sit down and watch according to their preferences.
9. If you have any questions or need assistance during the experience, please contact the on-site staff promptly.
10. When purchasing tickets, please confirm the date, session, and number of tickets. Purchase carefully.
11. Tickets are priced vouchers, not ordinary goods. They carry cultural services that are time-sensitive and scarce. Once sold, tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
12. If the event is postponed or canceled due to force majeure or other objective reasons, tickets purchased through official channels will be uniformly refunded for the ticket amount. Any other expenses incurred for the experience must be borne by you.
13. Do not use flash photography. Unauthorized live streaming, commercial filming, or any form of commercial or copyright-related activity is prohibited inside the venue.
14. Do not damage equipment, props, or venue facilities. The organizer reserves the right to claim compensation for any damage caused by intentional destruction.
15. Please maintain a quiet environment inside the venue. Avoid loud noises, running, or horseplay. Move slowly and quietly, be mindful of other audience members, and avoid collisions.
