Created in July 1994, the jazz quartet No Square was founded and led by the German bassist, André Hahne. The group has already produced 11 albums and has toured around the world.
 
The jazz of No Square is composed of simple melodies and of more complexe binary grooves inspired by polyrythms and odd mesures devoloped in contemporary jazz. No Square has also created and produced music for many creations and theater pieces.

Saxophone: Valentin Conus
Born in Switzerland, he got his first education from Christophe Grau and Elie Fumeaux. He studied then classical and contemporary music with Pierre-Stéphane Meugé and obtained a Bachelor of Arts and a Master at Haute Ecole de Musique of Lausanne (HEMU). In 2014, he graduated from Master’s degree in the jazz section of HEMU in Robert Bonisolo's class.
 
Due to his jazz and classical education, Valentin is a versatile musician, appreciated as a sideman for his flexibility and his tone palet. He had the opportunity to share the stage with musicians such as Nguyên Lê, Mathieu Michel, Vincent Peirani, Jean-Claude Risset, Amine & Hamza,Baiju Bhatt,… In 2014, he also founds his own group with which he had the chance to open for the Shai Maestro Trio in Annemasse (France).He appeared in different festival such as Montreux Jazz Festival, Jazz à Vienne, Cully Jazz Festival, Verbier Festival, and other international festivals (South Corea, India, Russia, Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan, Turkey,…)Amongst his orchestral experiences, Valentin took part in the Quincy Jones Anniversary Concert (Montreux Jazz) conducted by John Clayton. He also played with orchestras such as the Verbier Festival Orchestra and the Musikkollegium Winterthur, as a soloist with various symphonic orchestras from Turkey. In 2015, he also took part in Hugh Jackman’s show in İstanbul. In 2010, he got a 2nd prize in Tournoi International de Musique (TIM), in Verona (IT).
 

Piano: Michael Haudenschild
Michael Haudenschild is one of the most promising uprising piano players of Switzerland. He has a deep feel for harmonies as well as a great sense for melodic and lyrical expression. These skills he uses very creatively when improvising as a soloist but also when accompanying. He recently graduated with a master degree in Jazz Composition at the University of Arts in Bern, capital city of Switzerland. 
 
 
Bass: André Hahne 
André Hahne is a German/New Zealand musician living and working in Switzerland. He’s well known as a composer , bassist and founder of various projects such as the No Square Quartet & 60 Miles Trio. He has played with these projects all around the world resulting in numerous cd’s. He also creates music for theatre pieces.
 

Drums: Lionel Friedli
Lionel Friedli is a drummer born in 1975 in Switzerland and graduated from the Music High School of Luzern.

His interest in improvised, experimental, alternative music led him to collaborate with great musical personalities of the Swiss and international scene,including Marc Ribot, Fred Frith, Ellery Eskelin, Heiri Känzig, Michael Wintsch, Mathieu Michel. His musical research led him to integrate into his game an original and recognizable speech,made of "rhythmic ideas" coming from the different great contemporary and past musical currents, and more specific ideas from European improvised music.
