Since 2009 New Noise have been bringing many international bands to China. We are excited to announce the first edition of New Beat Festival. We would love to give the a truly unique music experience, a place for encouragement and comfort by carefully curating a line up with important independent artists. Music is put on the foreground and we want to create something special together. The first edition of New Beat will feature 3 bands who all hold a very important place in our hearts and who we consider as the shape of New Noise to come. New Noise are thrilled to invite iconic Japanese band envy to our first edition of New Beat.

 

Considered as one of the most important underground bands of Asia, the band will be headlining this edition of New Beat Festival Shanghai and do a headline show at Omni Space in Beijing.

 

Their music, through their own evolution, encompasses a sound where intensity and beauty coexists. Standing on the foreground of the Japanese underground scene, these legends have recorded over a dozen of albums and with each album since their inception in the early '90s the group have chipped away at the linguistic and cultural barriers inherent in international rock music. Envy toured all throughout the world with Mogwai, ISIS, Deafheaven, and many more. Envy toured their songs relentlessly for over 3 decades, and will continue to do so well into the future. An envy show is a great intense experience not to be missed!

 

 

We couldn’t be more excited that one of our all time favorite bands Caspian will be joining the New Beat line up in Shanghai for one China exclusive concert!

 

In the pantheon of post-rock music, Massachusetts post-rock band Caspian have cemented themselves a spot with their textured, emotionally potent compositions. Produced over two decades, their discography encapsulates the sonic possibilities that instrumental post-rock can offer—euphoric soundscapes; aggressive and distortion-heavy walls-of-sound; quietly delicate melodies—sometimes all found within a single song.

 

While their acclaimed 2015 album Dust and Disquiet was a deeply personal meditation on loss and grief, the band’s most recent record On Circles (2020) presents itself as an existential exploration on the cyclical nature of music-making and life itself, reflected through the meandering and circular paths taken by each song. In the words of guitarist and keyboardist Philip Jamieson, “Life isn’t a series of epic crescendos.”

For this year’s edition of New Beat we are bringing one of our favorite Chinese bands: the amazing Fayzz from Chengdu, who will be showcasing new music by the end of this year. In 2021 Chengdu based instrumentalists Fayzz made huge waves within the Chinese indie scene after they released their first full album “Connection”.

 

With a tender yet playful elasticity to their vibrant ear-pleasing concoctions, their music tosses in elements of math rock, chill out, and even hip-hop flavored jazz, crafting an innovative and euphonic harmony-rich sound. Fayzz are operating on a fantastical level – capturing the breeziness, whimsy, anxiousness and beauty of the boundless jungle – both in the tropical and urban sense making “Connection” one of the best albums of the 2021. New Beat will mark the band’s first show with a brand new album under their belt “Days Gone” which will be followed up by a full China tour kicking off in December.
