If you hear the name Van Gogh, you are reminded of a painting or a colour. Of a landscape you have driven through. Of an absence of recognition, or of loneliness. Of your own painting talent, or lack of it. In Van Gogh in Me we focus on the spectator. What effect does Van Gogh have on you? Or on me? And on Gustav Klimt, a great admirer of Van Gogh?
In Van Gogh in Me the NKK transports its audience back to the Europe of the fin de siècle, at the end of the 19th century. The time of Satie, Debussy and Mahler, and of Van Gogh and Klimt. But also a turbulent time of new discoveries and truths, global unrest and rapid changes.
In this all-round audiovisual experience the audience becomes both spectator and participant: the boundaries between music, images, artist and audience become blurred, the paintings become audible, and the musical sounds become visible. The audience not only receives an impression of the spirit of the age in Europe at the time, but can also sense the strong similarities with Europe today. Van Gogh in Me is a step into the past, and a glimpse of the future.

The Netherlands Chamber Choir
The Netherlands Chamber Choir (Nederlands Kamerkoor) exists for 80 years now and has been a world class choir for decades. Since the very beginning the choir is known for being adventurous and innovative. It owes this image to commissions to both well known composers and young talent, and a continuous search for new formats and exciting collaborations. This results in concerts that appeal to all senses. The choir has been praised by critics in and outside the Netherlands: “treacherous harmonies”, according to The Times (UK, 2017) and Volkskrant (NL, 2016): “a leading top ensemble.”
Education and participation is a vital part of the choir’s mission. The Netherlands has thousands of amateur choirs and numbers of youth choirs. The Nederlands Kamerkoor provides coaching and workshops, and ‘adopts’ choirs as supporting act for their own concerts.
Since September 2015 Peter Dijkstra is chief conductor of the Nederlands Kamerkoor. He is one of the most wanted choral conductors worldwide and is a guarantee for sparkling performances. Amongst his predecessors were conductors like Uwe Gronostay, Tõnu Kaljuste, Stephen Layton, Risto Joost and founder Felix de Nobel.
