Big Whale x Spain's Acaladanza Dance Company
An award-winning gift for children

This June 1st, Big Whale presents an exclusive gift for every child, and for those of you who were once a child, on Children's Day. Big Whale and Spanish contemporary dance group Acaladanze Dance Company are proud to present the Asian premiere of ‘The Game of Dance’, a co-production of Big Whale and Spanish contemporary dance group Acaladanze Dance Company!



For those of you who are familiar with The Great Whale, you are no stranger to Spain's Acaladanze Dance Company. As one of the world's leading contemporary dance companies specialising in choreography and performance for children, storytelling through contemporary dance is their speciality!

Miro's Starry Night and Margaret's Clouds, inspired by the works of Spanish master Juan Miro and Belgian master Margaret, respectively, and Da Vinci's Wings, which combines Renaissance romance with the genius of Da Vinci, have all been staged at the theatre. Every one of these productions can leave a baby spellbound!

In 2018, invited by the Akkaratanze Dance Company, ‘The Great Whale’ became one of the co-producers of ‘The Game of Dance’. The top artists have cut time to show different scenes; and for those of you who are attentive, you will also hear familiar Chinese melodies!

In the 23rd Premio Max Theatre Awards, ‘The Dancing Game’ won the Best Costume Design Award, Best Original Music Award and Best Lighting Design Award from 359 performances, and it was the only performance theatre to win 3 awards among all the winning works.

Premio MAX (known as Los Premios Max de las Artes Escénicas) was founded in 1998 and is the highest level of award in the field of performing arts in Spain.


Music with Chinese elements provided by artists invited by Big Whale, such as Pang Ying and Dai Wei, were added to the programme, thus creating a mixture of modern, classical and traditional Chinese music that constructs a dreamy atmosphere.

Enrique, Artistic Director of Akkaradanze, says that imagination is the most powerful tool to make human beings better. If you want to preserve and promote it, all you need is play. ‘Some of the parents at the show recalled their childhood and the games they used to play, while the children in the audience would even dance in their seats.’
