María Cristina Kiehr - Soprano
Born in Argentina, María Cristina Kiehr was trained by René Jacobs at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis / Musik-Akademie Basel. Very early in her career she had the privilege of performing with leading artists and pioneers of the early-music movement, including Gustav Leonhardt, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, René Jacobs, Philippe Herreweghe, Frans Brüggen, Jordi Savall, Chiara Banchini, Christophe Coin, among many others. She has also collaborated with renowned ensembles and orchestras such as Concerto Köln, Concerto Vocale, the Freiburger Barockorchester, La Fenice, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Kammerorkesteret Norge, the Nederlandse Bach Vereniging, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Vienna Philharmonic, Gli Incogniti with Amandine Beyer, Armin Jordan and the BOG, among others.

As a co-founder of the vocal quartet La Colombina and of the Daedalus Ensemble, she was able to pursue her passion for Renaissance polyphony, and with Concerto Soave her enthusiasm for the repertoire of the 17th century, especially Italian music. This repertoire bears witness to an extraordinarily rich period in which the greatest poets (such as Petrarch, Tasso and Marino) were set to music by the greatest composers (including Monteverdi, d’India and Mazzocchi), and in which sacred music addressed the senses and the hearts of listeners with the same rhetorical intensity as secular music.

María Cristina Kiehr continually broadens her musical horizons. Alongside opera and ensemble repertoire, she performs in duo formations with vihuela (Armonia Concertada – Ariel Abramovich), Baroque guitar (Carlos Jiménez Moreno), classical guitar (Pablo Márquez), and is also deeply engaged with contemporary music, including performances of Passion selon Marie by Zad Moultaka (b. 1967).

Her many recordings for harmonia mundi France and concerts throughout the world (Japan, Europe, Australia, North, Central and South America) testify to her artistic commitment. She shares this passion with the younger generation through masterclasses and her teaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she is involved in the Master’s programme in Historical Performance Practice.

Pablo Márquez - Guitar
Pablo Márquez is one of the most exceptional artistic personalities in the world of classical guitar. His refined sound culture and the extraordinary stylistic range of his deeply considered interpretations make each of his concerts a truly special experience. After winning several major international competitions, he embarked on an international career as a soloist and chamber musician. He performs regularly in leading concert halls around the world, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and the Philharmonie in Paris. Pablo Márquez has collaborated with some of the most important composers of our time, among them Luciano Berio, György Kurtág and Mauricio Kagel.

In 2007, ECM New Series released his recording Musica del Delphin, featuring music by Luys de Narváez. This was the first classical guitar album ever issued by this prestigious label and attracted worldwide attention. Further acclaimed recordings include the award-winning Schubert album with cellist Anja Lechner, El Cuchi bien temperado with music by Cuchi Leguizamón, and a recording with pianist Jan Schultsz devoted to works for guitar and fortepiano by Giuliani, Hummel and Moscheles. These recordings received numerous distinctions, including the German Record Critics’ Prize, the Grand Prix du Disque, the Italian Amadeus Prize, and the Neue Musik Zeitung award for “Best Early Music Recording.” Pablo Márquez teaches at the Hochschule für Musik Basel and is a highly sought-after pedagogue, giving masterclasses throughout the world.
