Spanish National Dance Award-winner, Manuel Liñán,
After sweeping Asia with ¡VIVA!, returns to Shanghai with his revolutionary new work.
Premiere at the Biennial de Flamenco de Sevilla × All-male cast igniting the stage with vocals and dance
With a male ensemble embodying desire and defiance, Muerta de Amor reconstructs the “language of love” through strength and fluidity.
Flamenco’s rebellious aesthetics collide with traditional Copla music,
Unleashing shockwaves that slash through the stage—pink and black tearing open the truth of love.
Liñán delves into his own romantic history to expose the deepest yearnings of humanity—
Love dies, so it may live forever.
「Overview」
Spanish choreographic treasure Manuel Liñán returns with his 2025 production, Muerta de Amor, following the phenomenal success of ¡VIVA!. While ¡VIVA!, celebrates freedom by subverting gender norms with 7 male dancers in elegant dresses, Muerta de Amor offers a sharper dissection of the essence of love.
Premiered at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla in 2024, the production draws on Liñán’s personal relationships. Using flamenco as his scalpel, he cuts open our longing for emotional connection and intimacy. How does love begin? How does it fade? Each audience member may find their own answer.
Performed by 12 artists, the choreography blends diverse styles and features Spain’s traditional Copla music. Through an expressive fusion of singing and dancing, the cast brings out themes of desire, fantasy and confrontation—emerging from deep emotional needs and evoking powerful energy and vitality.
PS: Fall in love, darling. You’ll dance better.

Singing, clapping and stamping, the dancers make rhythms amplified by dramatic arrangements built on traditional Spanish Copla, creating an immersive and powerful soundscape for the audience.
