Glass Animals are a British indie rock band formed in 2012. They rose to stardom with their second album, How to Be a Human Being, in the summer of 2016. Moreover, they performed at numerous high-profile festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Lollapalooza and others.
The four members became a friend in school, at Oxford and formed Glass Animals after enrolling in university. After two years of gigs, they released a debut EP, titled Leaflings, through an independent label. In 2013, their self-titled second EP came out, spawning another single called Black Mambo. It peaked at number 23 on the Alternative Songs chart and later featured in the Glass Animals’ debut album, Zaba. The record entered the Billboard 200 and brought over 7 million listeners on Spotify. Furthermore, the band performed on a couple of late-night talk shows.
In 2016, the band’s second album came out, led by the single Life Itself, which reached 14 on the Alternative Songs chart. The album peaked at number 20 in the US and 23 in the UK. It received praise for its “sense of wonder”, and “immediate impression”. Additionally, the record generated 3 more singles Youth (which samples owl sounds), Season 2 Episode 3 and Pork Soda. Actually, the indie group conceived How to Be a Human Being as a collection of stories, each about a completely different character. Moreover, a website was created for each of these characters, linking to the band’s own website.
