The Musical Don Juan was composed by French composer Félix Gray in 2003 and brought to the stage in 2004 by Gilles Maheu, the director of the renowned French musical Notre-Dame de Paris. Since its premiere, the production has been performed worldwide for over two decades. The musical was adapted from Don Giovanni by Mozart and The Abuser of Seville by Tirso de Molina, and reimagined the legendary figure of Don Juan as a man caught between desire and faith.

Set in the ancient Spanish city of Seville, the story follows Don Juan, a young nobleman known for his libertine nature and disbelief in true love. His life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Maria, an ingenuous sculptor, and falls in love with her at first sight. Ultimately, Don Juan sacrifices his life for love in a fatal duel. With its distinctive musical language, fervent Spanish atmosphere, and the powerful intensity of flamenco dance, the production has achieved remarkable success in France, Canada, South Korea, and beyond.
This production, blending French romantic sensibility with exotic cultural influences, once sparked a wave of musical theatre enthusiasm in Shanghai. In 2026, Don Juan will return to the stage, inviting audiences once again to experience this timeless legend of desire, redemption, and love.
