Dance Theatre Fly To Your Mountain
SIDCT Youth Incubation Platform
A self-narrative piece about an artist sojourning in Beijing
Building a double space with suitcases
New media and installation of art delivers my voices from memory
Wandering in the city to explore an unknown journey
【Introduction】
This is a self-narrative modern dance. Tibetan choreographer Zhaxi Wangjia builds a stage from his own experience- Tibetan starry sky, commonly-seen rocks and a suitcase symbolic of reality and dream. He uses new media art to express the voice from memory, showcasing the homesickness spanning over thousand miles, telling the story about homesickness and the confusion of people living in city using modern dance language and etherealizing music.
Since we vacillate between reality and dream, constantly walking and seeking along the way with our suitcases, this piece constantly reminds us that we shouldn’t forget looking back when we are on the road as the warm memories will help us find the significance of life.
【Highlights】
A self-narrative piece of an artist sojourning in Beijing, building a double space with suitcases
Zhaxi Wangjia is choreographer, dancer, stage designer and music editor. He creates this piece in search of continuous self-seeking. You shall be like a bird flying to your mountain is more like an autobiography; there is no romantic dialogues, nor exciting events but just the undercurrent and memories in life, which is light enough to bring with a suitcase but too heavy to lift.
The most frequently used prop is a small suitcase. Perhaps there is no other item more proper to be the symbol of melancholy, confusion and hesitation of people nowadays than this suitcase.
The dancer is pulled by the suitcase onto the stage though he’s not ready; he don’t know the direction to follow neither his destination. Zhaxi Wangjia finds such a stage symbol from his own experience, which suffices to recall the memories on and off the stage. Vacillating between reality and dream, the people who have to move on with the suitcase and seek are indeed us.
Bizarre and motley, a duo-dance of the monster of memory and life
He tries to find the answer in this dance, as well as the drive to move on, resembling the meaning of life learned along the road.
There are not many characters in this piece: except the ones with suitcase, there is another one representing life and the inner faith. She presents “another me on the world” by her character, body and attitude, to find the answer in tangle, contrast and duo-dance.
In the stage area of You shall be like a bird flying to your mountain, all the elements are as a whole: the rock hanging in the air over dark blue stage, the unknown monster, the red reflection and black tree branches on the screen. When the music starts, the dancers begin to dance and the language on the stage recombines in a fantastic and unique way in mind, teeming with understandings.
Multi-culture, the voice from Tibetan mountains passed by new media art
As an art creator, Zhaxi Wangjia never rejects other elements. “The stage is actually a space for infinite imagination, but not only the movie. Movie, installation, sound, music, body, these all complete my work, making it more powerful and filled.
