Since 2014, the Shanghai Grand Theatre New Year’s Concert has established itself as a name card of the city of Shanghai with joining forces from home and abroad.
To usher in another year of wonder, the Shanghai Grand Theatre and the Shanghai Opera House have invited renowned Italian conductor Fabio Luisi to lead the Shanghai Opera House Orchestra, Chorus, and a stellar of outstanding soloists in two distinct programmes. The December 30th concert features a light-hearted programme including masterpieces by Rossini, Mozart and Brahms. On the New Year's Eve, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, the magnificent "symphony monument", will again ring in the year of 2020 with Shanghai audience together.

Maestro Fabio Luisi is a prestigious conductor of the top rank in the world. He is currently General Music Director of the Zurich Opera, Music Director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Principal Conductor for the Danish National Symphony. He has also worked with l'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Vienna Symphony, the Metropolitan Opera, the Opera di Firenze and other leading orchestras, as chief conductor and music director.
Conductor: Fabio Luisi
Fabio Luisi is the Music Director Designate of the Dallas Symphony, General Music Director of the Zurich Opera, Chief Conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
He was Principal Conductor at the Metropolitan Opera in New York from 2011 to 2017, prior to this he served as Chief Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra (2005-2013), General Music Director of the Staatskapelle Dresden and the Saxon State Opera (2007-2010), Music Director and Principal Conductor of the MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig (1999-2007) and Music Director of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (1997-2002) and of the Tonkünstler Orchestra in Vienna (1995-2000).
