A larky fable in two acts by Brecht.
The Exception and the Rule is a short play by German playwright Bertolt Brecht in 1930 describes the harsh realities of the world. Shota Rustaveli State Drama Theatre presents its original version of the play staged with relevance in the modern world. The money-hungry merchant Karl Langmann who owns the biggest oil companies sets out across the desert to secure oil reserves with his guide and a coolie.
The situation becomes highly tensed among the expedition members. Langmann, extremely full of doubt and fear unjustly fires his guide in order to “protect” himself. Left in the severe desert conditions with the water supplies running low, the merchant shoots his coolie, thinking he would potentially attack him. Later in a court, the widow claims to punish the murderer but what would the verdict be in the society where the legal system protects injustice.
