DKS Shanghai:Immersive & Interactive Baby Opera

Can your child understand opera when you take them to the theatre?

OK! No problem at all!

DKS has invited Edinburgh Festival award-winning librettist Adrian Hornsby and Edinburgh Festival award-winning music arranger and pianist Dominic Harlan to create a five-sensory immersive classical music opera, Aria in an Eggshell, for children aged 0-6.

Breaking the old rule of "no human children under 1.2m", this time those little ones will be able to jump into the theatre and enjoy the "unattainable" art!

From 21 to 23 April, join us at the Cadillac - Shanghai Concert Hall for a fun-filled baby opera performance.

The whole play uses a light-hearted and witty style to portray the emotional core of family bonding - the mother giving her intense love and the expectations of her baby. Each child has its own eggshell, they love their hard-working parents and have their own rhythm of growth, and one day, they will break out of their shells ......

As always, the DKS is an immersive experience for musical enlightenment, with little ones sitting, lying down or crawling to their hearts' content during the performance, and mums and dads sitting on the floor at their leisure.

Making the most of the 45-minute performance time, there will be more than just plenty of exciting opera singing, but also immersive character experiences and live interactions, where the audience will experience the emotions of the characters and interact in a loving rhythm, based on the two characters grouped in the opera, the mother chicken and the baby chicken in an eggshell.

-- immerses children in an opera as if they were already part of the stage.

Elegant and serene cellos are paired with lively and soulful marimbas, using sound effects, colour and character interaction to create a full-sensory immersive experience for the audience. The melodious melodies and exquisite stage setting build a wonderful musical land where children can fall into the story and immerse themselves in the music as the performers push through the layers.

--The world is not that meaningful, and the "experience" is far more important than the "purpose".

DKS creative team has invited a child language development psychologist to act as an opera consultant, carefully selecting familiar arias and lullabies for babies to enjoy, removing the difficult language of the lyrics and interpreting the rhythms of the music in their natural original voices. The singers in Arias in Eggshells use the most primitive and powerful 'musical language' to communicate directly with the hearts of little ones. Mums and dads will be amazed at the way their babies are fascinated by the high-C of the soprano or the subtle vibrations of the baritone.
