Eric Speller, Yf Bourry and Dimitri Mestdag founded the Astria Oboe Trio in 2009.
The three soloists, who have many national and international awards to their credit, perform a little-known repertoire that extends from the baroque period through contemporary compositions. The unique richness of sound, created by a combination of oboe, oboe d'amore and cor anglais, offers countless shades of sound and is an abiding source of inspiration for contemporary composers.
Eric Speller
After studying the oboe with Claude Maisonneuve at Rueil-Malmaison, Eric Speller went on to work with Jean-Christophe Gayot and Guy Laroche at the "Conservatoire National Supérieur" of Lyon, where he was unanimously awarded a premier prix. Then he was admitted to the Conservatoire in Geneva, where he studied with Maurice Bourgue and received the "prix de perfectionnement" in 1995. The same year, he joined the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra as co-soloist.
Yf Bourry
Yf began his oboe studies at the Academy of Music "Peter Benoit" in Harelbeke with Omer Geirnaert and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent with Paul Dombrecht.
Dimitri Mestdag
Dimitri studied at the music academy in Harelbeke and at the School of Arts in Ghent in the class of Yf Bourry.
He obtained a master's degree in oboe, cor anglais and chamber music at the Brussels Conservatory, studying under Paul Dombrecht and Alex Van Beveren.
