On Saturday, June 28, ALTER. takes over the Secret Roof at Alila Shanghai for Lights & Shadows—a night where sound and vision meet for Shanghai’s creative crowd.

Tucked at 500 Weihai Lu, the Secret Roof at Alila Shanghai is a chic open-air retreat designed by acclaimed interior designer Ju Bin of Level Line Design. Its sleek, modern aesthetic, with tactile materials like timber marquetry and rattan, blends seamlessly with Shanghai’s electric skyline. Overlooking the newly renovated Zhangyuan—a historic shikumen complex reborn as a vibrant hub of boutiques, galleries, and eateries—this rooftop offers a stunning view of restored stone-gate townhouses that fuse 19th-century East-meets-West architecture with contemporary flair. By day, Secret Roof serves expertly brewed organic coffee and light bites, transitioning at night into a bar with bespoke cocktails crafted by resident bartender Leo, whose menu highlights innovative coffee-draft cocktails like the Espresso Martini Nitro and Cold Brew Negroni, blending bold flavors with smooth textures.

From 5:00 PM to midnight, KNOPHA, BEN HUANG, SPADA, and ZHUO spin intricate techno and house through a crystal-clear L-Acoustics sound system.
