Almost 55 developed by the up-and-coming choreographer, Chou Shu-yi, the dance is tailoredto Qiao Yang at her age of fifties, a milestone moment towards realizing spiritual maturity and her purposein life. To embark the project, the creative team - Lin Ching-ju, Lee Chi-wai, Maurice Lai, Steve Hui and QiaoYang undertook a 400-day journey of root tracing, exploration and creation. Narrating through the dance,the performance imprints Qiao’s years of precious dedication and devotion to dancing through life, whileenvisaging and embracing a new chapter of her dance career.

QIAO Yang
Qiao Yang, Artist in Residence of CCDC, joined the Company in 1996, and debut herfull-length solo performance inAlmost 55in 2019.Born in Shaanxi, Qiao started learning Chinese dance at the age of 12. She receivedthe Gold Award in the Modern Dance Duet Class at the Paris International DanceCompetition in 1990 and became a founding member of Guangdong Modern DanceCompany in 1992, where she performed extensively in major international artsfestivals in the US, India, France, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc. She joined CCDC in1996. With her performance inThe Tragedy of Mr O, she won the 2003 Hong KongDance Award and was listed in the “Hong Kong Dance Hall of Fame”. Qiao receivedHong Kong Dance Awards Outstanding Performance by a Female Dancer in 2011 and2020 for her performances inTales of Two Cities – Hong Kong, Shanghai, EileenChang, andAlmost 55respectively, and received a nomination for the same prize atthe 2016 Hong Kong Dance Awards for Soledad. Qiao was the awardee of “Artist ofthe Year (Dance)” of the 14th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards in 2020 and“Secretary for Home Affairs Commendation Scheme (Arts and Culture)” in 2021.
