"A Bergman Affair" is a composite theater show.
The script is based on the novel Private Conversations, written by Bergman, and the entire production is made up of multiple forms of artistic expression: drama, dance, puppetry, and video.
The story centers on a middle-aged woman in her forties, and how she navigates her way through life, maintaining relationships with her godfather, her husband, and her lover.
Anna, one of Bergman's most iconic heroines. Anna, a woman trapped and lost in her own life with three children, a husband who is no longer in love, and a soul imprisoned by religion. Thomas, a young student and Anna's lover. The man who made Anna succumb to her desires. It is these entanglements of theirs that spark the story between these four people, i.e.: "Private Talk" (original Swedish title: " Séances Individuelles"). Anna, in the play, confesses to her godfather, her husband, before actually having sex with Thomas. However, the verbal violence, the anxiety and panic, the freedom and bondage that come back to her become merely those emotional catharsis in the characters' conversations, and all is in vain ......
