Lauded by Oscar-winning composer Tan Dun as "a rising young star with a remarkable gift" for their collaboration on the Zen Shaolin Project, jazz singer, and composer Zhang Le leads the wave of Chinese artists who bring the power of traditional Chinese musical arts to the home of jazz. Zhang won the Sir Roland Hanna Memorial Awards for jazz performance in NYC and is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music.

 

 

Zhang Xiongguan studied with some of the leading figures in the jazz world: Fred Hersch, Miguel Zenon and Jason Moran. After graduating from the prestigious New England Conservatory with a Master degree, he returned his homeland and started his career as an educator in Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
