“I think that day was the real beginning as an artist. I only need a ray of light, music, and pencils in my life. Happiness, for me, is as simple as that. Some people are more inspired during the night, but I prefer the daylight when the sun shines outside…” - Yoshitaka Amano
"Amano is an artist for the next century…He has taken all that he has learned from anime, from American comics, from a hundred traditions, and be more forward with it, scaling the wall between fine art and illustration, between yesterday and tomorrow." - Neil Gaiman
"A superstar of Japanese anime, Yoshitaka Amano is the creator of ''Speed Racer,'' ''G-Force'' (known as Science Ninja Team Gatchaman) and ''Final Fantasy,'' epic cartoons beloved by youngsters all over the world. " - New York Times
"Despite Amano’s work on various games and anime, he is also a highly regarded world-class artist in his own right. Having undertaken various exhibitions across the world, he is one of the rare artistic talents in the world today." - Forbes
The exhibition will be the largest the artist has ever held in China and feature the full spectrum of the fantasy godfather’s artistic career, including nearly 200 original paintings, 32 newly created large-scale hand drawings and 5 animated films. The series of Shanghai Girl, which Yoshitaka created exclusively for the exhibition, will also be shown at the Modern Art Museum, Shanghai for the first time.
Amano is known in Japan as nothing short of a master whose creations lie somewhere between the world of fine art and Japanese anime, manga, and video games (commonly referred to in China as ACG), his work often manifested in the form of illustrations and character designs.
