“Stitch”, means to sew. We could derived it from sewing as “Connection”, and from connection we could extend it to ornament and other meanings.
“Dream”, means the illusions in the sleep. We could extend it to “Fantasy”. It could be both authentic and unreal.

The Chinese pronunciation of the word “Dreamer” is similar to “Stitch dream”, and it also means dream chaser.

The solo exhibition <缀·梦 Dreamer> of Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano will be presented by Modern Art Museum Shanghai joint with What? What! from Sep.1st to Oct.29,2023. After the solo exhibition <Fantasy In Daylight>of Maestro Amano in 2019, we can enjoy the Maestro’s works of art again in the Modern Art Museum Shanghai. And this time there would be over 130 pieces of works of Yoshitaka Amano, including 30 pieces of print of the classic series of “Pansa”, and the series of “baby’ZOO” which is Maestro’s latest creation in 2022, and original painting and 4 sculpture works of the series of the “Parallera” which are shown to the public for the first time. It is also the first time that the series of “baby’ZOO” and “Parallera” are shown together in the mainland China.

We have discovered the growth experience and the ideology reflected in the works at each stage of Maestro Amano in the solo exhibition <Fantasy In Daylight> in 2019. “The sound of music and pencil with the daylight, they combine to the joy of my life and the beginning of the fantasy.” This sentence became the inspiration source for the exhibition theme in 2019.

In 2023, Yoshitaka Amano's brand new solo exhibition <缀·梦 Dreamer> is also chosen to be held at the Modern Art Museum Shanghai. “Fantasy” is still the main theme of this exhibition, but this time “Fantasy” means “Dream”. It combines stronger creativity and expressiveness to show the mind blowing expression of art.

There are 5 different sections, including the sections of “baby‘ZOO”, “Parallera”, “Pansa” and the original works section of “Genji monogatari”, “Hiten”,”Maten”,”Lion King” etc. And there is also the section for peripheral products store. Each section will be arranged according to the style of the exhibit, and let the audience experience a wonderful dreamworld.In this exhibition, there is also one section for the exclusive peripheral products store. It will be the first time to conduct a“ limited time sales for Maestro Amano’s prints” and co-brand product.

There will be a special section for the guest artist SUSPENSEGIRL Hina Amano to present her art of works.

Please immerse into the fantasy world created by Maestro Amano. The description of colors and images is the tension of ups and downs of colors and the painting expression. It is the fresh feeling of blood flowing, and the language of "super consciousness" that can only be interpreted in dreams.

YOSHITAKA AMANO

The world renowned artist who is called Japanese national treasure Yoshitaka Amano, was born in Shizuoka city, Japan in 1952. He has his own style of painting and joined in the Tatsunoko Production, which is the one of the earliest ancestor production company in Japanese anime industry, at the age of 15. In Tatsunoko Production, he started his career by animated character setting, and he participated in the production of one of the earliest science fiction animation “Kagaku Ninja-Tai Gatchaman”.

He was in charge of the character setting of the “Final Fantasy” series from 1987, and he drew a large number of promotional posters, scene illustrations, etc. And it is because of the “Final Fantasy” series that he is familiar to Chinese audiences. By the early 1990s, he published four collection of illustrations which are “Maten”, “Genmukan”, “IMAGINE” and “Hiten”. The four collections all received excellent market feedback and reputation. He won four times “Nebula Awards” (1983-1986) in a row , and also won the 38th “Nebula Awards” in 2007.

Yoshitaka Amano is still the top art maestro of Japan, he has made special achievements in fields such as illustration, animation, games, stage designing, costume designing, internationally renowned brands, and contemporary art.

SUSPENSEGIRL HINA AMANO

She was born in an artistic family and had her first solo exhibition at the age of 14.
Painting is "an instinct that has existed for as long as she can remember." to SUSPENSEGIRL Hina Amano.

SUSPENSEGIRL Hina Amano’s creations represent the current style of women in Tokyo, which reflected from three perspectives: fashion, trend and individuality. It also shows the expression and structure of her own creative imagination, as well as the rich and colorful illusory concepts of her inner world.

SUSPENSEGIRL Hina Amano has been active in the field of Japanese fashion and trend art, and has taken part in various activities, such as designing work for many large companies and brands, held the joint exhibition with the famous Japanese singer and actor Shingo Katori at 【NAKAMAdeART】, and participated in numerous television programs.

Her first solo exhibition in mainland China which was called [In My Room], has been held in BBART Space Beijing.
