Wild Children (野孩子) were found in Hangzhou by Zhang Quan and Xiao Suo as a duo in 1995. After getting back to their hometown Lanzhou, a city in Northwestern China, they started their study on the local folk music of the area for about 1 year. The next year they marched to Peking.
Early in the new century, the band took in more members and became quite active in Beijing, having their weekly performance in the legendary River Bar (“河”酒吧). 2004 was a fickle year, Xiao Suo passed away because of cancer, the band disbanded as well as the bar. In 2010, the wild children got back together after 6 years of separation, and play as a stable quintet since 2013, with their classical 2 guitars + 2 percussions lineup.
The band are strongly influenced by traditional music and culture of the region of upstream of the Yellow River, musically and mentally. Based on melody loop and irregular rhythm, with their broad and rich multi-voice chorus, the music of Wild Children will become the power to drive your body and soul, to some extent, it will easily remind you of the work song of their homeland.
