Cut-in from the widely known female anchor, Web Traffic touches the economy of the live broadcast and its performance mechanism through a combination of Dance Theater, multimedia projection, and live broadcast. In Web Traffic, female anchor Liu Xiaoliang and her team struggle in the industry chain of the live broadcast in shuffle period.

She and her team seek for rules of the game and search for identity. Web Traffic also reveals that the audiences and the actors are wandering between reality and illusion in the process of acquiring a sense of belonging and self-realization in this particular subculture exchange ecology.

In Web Traffic, female anchor Liu Xiaoliang acted by Jiang Fan, sometimes she plays silly live broadcast through the huge mobile phone screen hanging on the stage, sometimes shows the unknown living state of female anchors through exaggerated dancing, and sometimes tells her thoughts to the audience like a lonely girl.

From another perspective, these scenes of virtual or real are art. The audiences would sit on the stage and closely interact with the actors. They are both the audiences for the performance and the realistic spectators.

Choreographer
Jiang Fan is a Shanghai-based choreographer and performer originally from Fujian Province. She started dancing since the age of 8. After graduating from the Shanghai Academy of Theatre in 2009, she joined the Shanghai Opera House Dance Troupe and served as choreographer and dancer, during which she participated in a series of productions in dance and musical theatre.

Gradually she started combating the habitual ways of developing choreography and the conventional display of movement values, and she became further interested in experiment-driven and research-oriented working processes.

In 2014 she founded Forward Somersault, a performance group that straddled disciplines such as dance, theatre, and visual art, and expanded the scope of her choreographic subject matter through examining the social and perceptual conditions that accompany China’s drastic urbanization. In 2015 she resigned from the Dance Troupe, and has been working as an independent choreographer and performer since then.
