Ergao Dance Production Group
Synopsis:
Ergao, the Guangzhou-based choreographer known for his humorous and quirky style, returns with a new dance work inspired by the vibrant, colorful world of batik fabric. Following his previous works Let’s Dance (2018) and Butterfly Island (2023), this piece weaves together dance fantasies with playful, makeshift aesthetics, extending his ongoing concern for marginalized communities. The renowned video and multimedia artist Cao Fei serves as the artistic consultant for this dance theatre piece, marking their first collaboration in this role.
The performance invites audiences into a colorful "future pedestrian street" and a futuristic world shop to partake in an unexpected and lively celebration. The space will be filled with vibrant batik fabrics, while dancers move among them, blending African dance, traditional Chinese folk dance, contemporary dance, and martial arts forms like Wing Chun and Hung Kuen. The performance also transforms the theatre into a unique future street, where batik fabrics are shaped into human forms, awakening in a ceremony that celebrates life and rebirth.
