In this class you will be able to test out various Japanese techniques of Shibori to create random designs using scrap pieces of cloth.
We will have a go at the Sekka method using fan folds and blocks, the Arashi method of using a pipe to twist and make folds as well as the more we’ll known method Kanoko associated with tie dye, using rubber bands and beads. We can also try the subtle method of Kumo that uses stitches to create gathers. All this before choosing which will best suit your own project.
The randomness and complete transformation from green to blue as it oxidizes with the air, makes Shibori a magical experience.
You will be able to then use your newly found skills to design and dye a light weight cotton scarf and you are also welcome to bring along a small item to dye too (no bedsheets please!).
