(August 11-18)  Lets go...trekking in Tibetan Qinghai!!!

 

This trip is all about exploring the awesome Tibetan area of Qinghai!  Circle around the mountain area starting and finishing our trip in Chana Wuduo, passing through incredible destinations. Take in the awesome scenery, rich culture and history, and beautiful nature. Watch the spectacular sun rise over holy mountains, hike through countryside villages, check out the local culture in the Gesar Valley, explore traditional mountain villages, visit local markets, ancient temples, buddhist monasteries, lush mountains … and more!!!

Dates:  August 11 - August 18 (Friday night to Friday)

Day 1 -  Friday - August 11

• Meet up with the group at the airport and head over to Dawu Town (Altitude: 3,800 m)
• Grab some dinner in a local restaurant
• Accommodation : hotel
• Meals: dinner

 

Day 2 - Saturday - August 12 (Hiking/Driving)

• Early breakfast

• Set out for our awesome journey to to Chana Kaduo (3,920 m), the starting point of our trek
• Trekking time !! - We will be heading  up north along the valley to a maximum Altitude of (4,725 m)
• Enjoy the spectacular views
• Set up camp
• Accommodation : camping!
• Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

 

Day 3 - Sunday –  August 13 (Hiking / Driving)

• Early breakfast and continue the trek
• Hikey through awesome mountains and beautiful Gesang flowers up to the highest peak - Dharma Qiao Pass (4,720 m)
• Gumao (altitude: 4,275 m) → Geri Ge (4,200 m) [31 km total trek/drive]
• Set up camp
• Accommodation : camping!
• Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

 

Day 4  - Monday – August 14 (Hiking/Driving)

• Early breakfast

• Hike around the beautiful snow capped mountain, Anima Qing
• Campsite (altitude: 4,200 m) → Xiada Wu (3,980 m) [25 km total trek/drive]
• Continue along the gravel roads and pass by cultural centres
• Explore the temples in the area
• Enjoy dinner on the road as we head to our campsite near the Geri temple
• Accommodation : Alpine camping!
• Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

 

Day 5 -  Tuesday –  August 15 (Hiking/Driving)

• Early breakfast

• Hike along the northern slope of Anima Qing
• Campsite (altitude: 3,920 m) → Zhihai Dai Pass (4,600 m) → Zhijia Guo Campsite (altitude: 4,310 m) [28 km total trek/drive]
• Explore the scenery and see the spectacular halon glaciers
• Return for the evening at a campsite
• Enjoy some campsite food
• Accommodation : camping!
• Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

 

Day 6 -  Wednesday– August 16 (Hiking/Driving)

• Early breakfast

• Start our hike to Baita village
• Zhijia Guo (altitude: 4,310 m) → Right Halon (4,500 m) → Baita Village (3,690 m) [22 km total trek/drive]
• See the nearby ranches with cattle
• Explore Baita village
• Settle down for the night in camp in the village
• Accommodation : camping!
• Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 7 -  Thursday – August 17 (Hiking/Driving)

• Early breakfast

• Head down through the valley to Chana Kaduo
• Baita Village → Chaunacardo (altitude: 3,920 m)  [17 km total trek/drive]
• → Dawu Town (3,800 m) [61 km total drive]
• Visit a flowing red spring(believed to be used for medicinal purposes by locals!)
• Visit Zhodo Tidro Hermitage
• Enjoy a local feast in Dawu
• Check into our hotel and have a hot shower!
• Accommodation : hotel
• Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

 

Day 8 - Friday – August 18

• Breakfast at hotel

• Transfer to airport
• Accommodation : n/a
• Meals: breakfast

Accommodation:

Included - 7 nights - Clean double (or triple) occupancy rooms in local guesthouses and double occupancy tents (mat, sleeping bag, tent).  Rooms will be booked on a first come first served basis.  If you wish to room alone, the single occupancy fee is an extra 1100 RMB per person total for 7 nights. Please note that single occupancy availability may be limited. (If needed, we can help you find someone to share. Pairings in this case are distributed in order of request submission. If there is an uneven number of travelers, the extra single occupancy fee may apply.)

What you need to bring:

PASSPORT, camera/GoPro, trekking shoes, insect repellent, sunglasses, high-energy food, toiletries, water bottles (1L), trekking backpack (60L to be put on the bus for transportation), daypack (20-25 L for you to carry yourself) -  sunblock, headlight/flashlight, hat,  altitude sickness medication, flip flops, trekking poles, etc.

If the traveler decides to cancel, s/he can get refund of the deposit (a small cancellation fee may apply) up July 27 and no refund after that.
