Develop your orientation skill, learn to use a simple map, use a compass and tune your senses to find your way while walking outdoors. While getting lost is pretty common, in the outdoors it can sometimes be scary, it pushes us to make decisions and expose us to the unknown. This is a gentle adventure that helps participants to gain confidence in their navigation skill through a real role-play scenario.

 

 

EVENT ITINERARY
10:00 meet at the Parrot Tree, in Cenbo village (Jinze), 60 km from People Square
10:20 briefing about outdoor navigation
10:40 go to the woods and start our adventure
11:30 start the way back to the PT
12:00 debrief at the PT
12:30 end (optional: lunch and accommodation onsite at the PT)

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This event is designed with the Greensteps triple focus method to achieve the following aims:

Direct aim: find our way back home after a forest walk

Indirect aims:  
- Gross motor skills: move over difficult terrain
- Fine motor skills: using a compass and a map
- Science skills: read the landscape to collect navigation hints.
- Language: English terminology for forest ecology and navigation.

Environmental intelligence: 
- Practice: feeling and observing nature in a noninvasive way
- Observation: different kinds of plants, agriculture crops, weather assessment.
- Deduction: best possible route back home
- Change: develop self-confidence and curiosity for being outdoors
