One of the most highly respected acts in both techno and industrial circles, Orphx (Rich Oddie and Christina Sealey) have been refining their signature fusion of hypnotic rhythms and experimental noise for many years.
They began in the early 90s with a raw sound inspired by old school industrial but soon began incorporating elements of dub, techno and electro into their work. Orphx built up an international following as one of the pioneering acts within the European "rhythmic noise" scene.
More recently their work has come to the attention of techno fans through a series of acclaimed releases on the Sonic Groove label, collaborative work with the likes of Ancient Methods and Justin Broadrick, and remixes for many artists including Oscar Mulero, Perc, Front Line Assembly and Conrad Schnitzler.
Oddie and Sealey have performed around the world at celebrated venues like Berghain and Tresor, and festivals such as Berlin Atonal, Movement, Mutek, and Unsound. They are renowned for their improvised performances, combining software with modular synthesizer and other hardware. Building on a sprawling back catalogue that stretches across industrial, ambient, and techno, their recent output has demonstrated that Orphx are both pioneers and innovators in the fusion of rhythm and noise.
Samy, aka Kmyle, is now signed on Antoine Husson’s (aka Electric Rescue) Frenchtechno label Skryptöm. Nowadays an experienced DJ and producer he offers a uniqueraw style of techno music. Keen on electronic music since he was a child, Samycould deservedly be considered a self-taught musician.
Born in Algiers, he steps foot in France at the age of 5 before leaving for a few yearsfor Montreal with his family, returning to Southern France in 1998. He used to listena lot to his sister playing the piano before trying to recreate the melodies byhimself. Noticing this tendency, his parents sign him in for music school where he learnsthe guitar and the piano. Settled in Provence, regular school is not what animates himthe most and he seeks to thrive through music. He starts to play several gigs inhis town’s concert hall.
Aged of 11, Samy starts digging into techno music. Fascinated with late night radioshows from London or Detroit, he starts collecting these exclusive techno mix tapes oncassette. “I thought they were amazing even without understanding what they weredoing” He finds a music production software in his local library and spends hisafternoons rather at the record store than in classrooms.
Thanks to his first savings,he managed to purchase a pair of turntables and starts producing and mixing athome. Visiting all nightclubs of his region, he finally meets several artists andprofessionals of the techno movement. He officially plays for the first time in Marseille atan after party under a former alias, what enables him to release several of hisproductions on notorious labels.
After moving to Toulouse ni 2013, his sound turns into a rawer, more emotional andpared down techno. Antoine Husson is convinced by this first draft and signs him on hislabel, Skryptöm. He offers Samy the opportunity to start a new project, entitled Kmyle.
Now aged 27, after 4 releases on Skryptöm, Kmyle sees many of his tracks played bysome of the greatest Djs: Laurent Garnier, Marcel Dettmann, Inigo Kennedy, PärGrindvik, Dixon...
