Under Zubin Mehta, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra has cultivated a strong tradition of interpretation of Russian music, and it is expectable that the tradition will continue during Shani's direction. In this concert, he will join French violinist Renaud Capuçon to present the First Violin Concerto of Prokofiev. Although it is not performed as frequently as the Second, this piece is a perfect silhouette of the composer's attempt to cater to the Parisian audience's preference of dissonance in modern music. The concert ends with Shostakovich's beloved Fifth Symphony which saved his career as a composer.
