Original Ballet the Heartbeat of Muqam

Inspired by the art of Chinese Xinjiang Uyghur Muqam, a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity, The Heartbeat of Muqam is an original ballet produced by Shanghai Ballet. The ballet follows a young musician named Gül on her return journey to hometown Xinjiang. She embarks on a soul-searching journey from retrieving childhood memories to rediscovering the enduring vitality of Muqam nowadays.

This journey embodies the exploration and praise for the cultural roots of the Chinese nation from a contemporary perspective. It also presents a mutual pursuit and artistic integration between Western ballet and the art of Chinese Xinjiang Uyghur Muqam.
