Not only is the Dresden Kreuzchor one of the oldest and most renowned choirs in the world, it is also the most popular ambassador of Saxony’s capital city. Ten thousand people around the globe are enchanted and moved by the Crucians (“Kruzianer”) every year. Their concerts are sold out months in advance. Those who have heard their sound once will probably never forget it. About 130 Crucians aged 9 to 19 are part of the choir.

Boys and young men who listen to hip hop and sing Johann Sebastian Bach. No other ensemble is – on account of its members alone – more modern in the best sense, more contemporary, more of a promise for the future than the Dresden Kreuzchor.

Director: Roderich Kreile
Since 1997, Roderich Kreile has occupied the position of “Kreuzkantor”. This position of cantor is one of the highest offices of church music.

Roderich Kreile is the Dresden Kreuzchor’s artistic and executive director. As the 28th “Kreuzkantor” since the Reformation, one of the highest offices of church music, he is responsible for the choir’s repertoire. Most of the choir’s musical performances are conducted by Roderich Kreile.

Born in 1956 in Munich, he was, among other things, professor at the Munich University of Music before his Dresden years. From 1994, Roderich Kreile was conductor of the Munich Philharmonic Choir before taking office as the Dresden Kreuzchor’s artistic director.

Under his direction, the choir has performed with world-famous orchestras and produced numerous recordings.
