• The story began as a beloved children’s novel by Roald Dahl (1964), and over decades it has gained worldwide recognition — translated into many languages and read by generations of children and families globally.  
• The story was popularized for new audiences through major film adaptations — notably the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and the 2005 film version directed by Tim Burton — spreading Dahl’s tale far beyond its original readership.  
• The stage musical adaptation premiered in London’s West End in June 2013 (at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane) and ran for approximately 1,500 performances (June 2013 – Jan 7, 2017). It earned multiple 2014 Olivier Award nominations, including Best New Musical, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Set Design, and Best Theatre Choreography. It also won two major awards: Best Costume Design and the White Light Award for Best Lighting Design.
• In 2017 the show opened on Broadway (at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre) in New York, under a reworked production directed by Jack O’Brien. It ran for 305 performances, plus 27 previews (Apr 23, 2017 – Jan 14, 2018).

The 2025 performances in Dongguan, Shenzhen, and Shanghai have attracted over 40,000 audiences over 5 weeks, with the Shanghai engagement at the Shanghai Culture Square theatre selling over 95% capacity with several sold-out shows. The International Global Tour production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has become a runaway hit in the fall season, garnering a large audience following and overwhelming good reviews. The Tour is scheduled to perform at the most influential grand theatres in key Asia-Pacific and Middle East cities, including Marina Bay Sands Theatre in Singapore, Solaire in Manila, Hong Kong Culture Center Grand Theatre, the Ethiad Arena in Abu Dhabi, among others.
