The Bolshoi Theatre Ballet's "Gala" brings together the finest works from the company's centuries-long history.
The first half opens with the Swan Lake pas de deux, performed in Yuri Grigorovich's classic 1969 version. This is followed by three of Marius Petipa's most celebrated masterpieces: the Carnival in Venice pas de deux—a piece rarely seen on regular programs—alongside the Le Corsaire pas de deux and the The Sleeping Beauty pas de deux. Gsovsky's Grand Pas Classique showcases the elegant refinement of the French academic ballet tradition. Also featured are the most stirring excerpts from Yuri Grigorovich's Spartacus—"Phrygia's Solo" and the "Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia"—as well as a selection from The Flames of Paris, choreographed in the original version by Vasily Vainonen. The second half presents the Grand Pas from Paquita, in a newly choreographed version revived by Yuri Burlaka, featuring a rich variety of solo variations that brilliantly showcase the dancers' individual virtuosity.
