Let’s go…hike along an ancient caravan trail (Xianxia)!

This trip is all about trekking through awesome nature along an ancient trail! We will be heading to the great outdoors to check out the mountain scenery, ancient villages, one of which is 900+ years old!, bamboo forests, tea plantations, buddhist temples, and more!

Some history about the trail:

This trail was first built by General Huang Gou for the invasion of Fujian during the Tang Dynasty (approx. 878 AD). Over time, it became a caravan trail for traders between the two provinces. The total length of the original trail was about 120 kilometers, and, up until 1932, it was the only path connecting Zhejiang and Fujian. Since then, much of the trail has disappeared due to the construction of new roads. Nianbadu, a town which we will visit, is one of the ancient towns where the merchants settled along the way.

Dates: September 7 - 9 (Friday night to Sunday night)

Day 1 – Friday

17:38 – Our train departs to Jiangshan (bring snacks for dinner on the train)

19:55 – Train station pick up and head over to our guesthouse

21:00 – Arrive and check in our guesthouse

Day 2 – Saturday

07:00 – Simple Western breakfast

08:00 – Head over to the ancient town of Nianbadu for a visit

10:16 – Start our hiking adventure (starting point: Longjin Village)

12:30 – Arrive at Xianxia Guan and hike down for another half an hour

13:00 – Local Specialty lunch

14:00 – Head over to beautiful Shigu Lake, go swimming if weather permits.

16:30 – Return to our guesthouse and visit Dai Li's former residence(optional)

17:30 – Check into our hotel (...or set up tents on the roof if you’ve chosen to camp)

10:00 – Local specialty dinner

20:00 – Rooftop party with great music and drinks!

Day 3 – Sunday

07:00 – Simple Western breakfast

08:00 – Head out to Jiangang Scenic Spot for some great views

08:40 – Start the second leg of our hike - around Jianglang Mountain, famous for its karst rocks - and visit some buddhist temples along the way

12:30 – Arrive at our destination

13:00 – Local specialty lunch

14:00 – Hop on the bus and relax on our way to the train station

18:35 – Train departs to Shanghai
