While She Sleeps are an English metalcore band from Sheffield. Formed in 2006, the group consists of vocalist Lawrence Taylor, guitarists Sean Long and Mat Welsh, bassist Aaran McKenzie and drummer Adam Savage.

 

They are currently an independent band in the UK and are signed to SharpTone Records in the US and UNFD in Australia. They have released one EP, The North Stands for Nothing, in 2010, and three studio albums, This Is the Six, Brainwashed and You Are We. They received the Best British Newcomer award at the Kerrang! Awards 2012.

 

 

 

While She Sleeps' musical style has often been described as metallic hardcore (a term used to describe hardcore punk-leaning metalcore) by reviewers. They’ve also been called just hardcore punk. They have cited post-hardcore, hardcore and alternative metal bands including Thrice, Slipknot, Foo Fighters, Underoath, Refused, Comeback Kid, Gallows and Alexisonfire as musical influences.

 

The band's sound typically features heavily down-tuned guitars, thick bass tones, screamed vocals and fast-paced drumming – occasionally complimented by melodic guitar tones and piano interludes. When questioned about the progression between their debut EP The North Stands for Nothing and their 2012 studio album This Is the Six, guitarist Welsh said that they have not changed their sound drastically, saying "it's super heavy but then it's melodic too".
